Gugu Mbatha-Raw Rumored For Star Wars: Episode VIII

Right now, the Star Wars movie universe has a fair few balls in the air. “He’s one of those new talented people that ‘Star Wars” is hiring to infuse the franchise with new steroids”. With Johnson helming the film, J.J. Abrams is set to direct “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” while “Jurassic World” filmmaker Colin Trevorrow will helm “Star Wars: Episode IX”.

Many outlets are convinced that Mbatha-Raw’s role is actually one of two leading roles that Rian Johnson is looking to fill for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

What do you think about Gugu Mbatha-Raw potentially joining the Star Wars: Episode VIII cast? The Belle star is now in negotiations to join the cast, although there’s no firm idea as to what her role in the film will be. The Force Awakens opens in December and we don’t have any plot clues other than that Han and Chewie hang out on the Millennium Falcon again.

Whether this is actually the same role that was previously in contention between Maslany, Gina Rodriguez and Olivia Cooke is, of course, unclear, since we don’t actually know what any of Episode VIII’s roles are yet.

Mbatha-Raw, 32, has enjoyed success with previous projects, the most acclaimed being her contributions to the Beyond the Lights movie, in 2014. The report points out that “Brick”, the director’s debut film, is a “perfect ensemble team”, while his second film “The Brother’s Bloom” carries a strong sense of humor that will also be needed for “Star Wars”.
