Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima Still Working on a Game Together
Silent Hills is canceled, but project leads Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro still intend to work on a new project together.
Like a nostalgia fueled Kickstarter campaign, every off the cuff remark about Silent Hills makes the imaginary game in our heads even better.
During an interview with IGN, del Toro said, “I love working with Kojima-san“. We are still in touch.
The playable teaser that was launched satisfied a lot of gamers and Kojima and Guillermo del Toro explained that they were planning to involve the community in the development process.
“One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis”, he used as an example. It was the subject of an unconventional reveal, with Sony revealing and releasing an interactive trailer for a horror game for PlayStation 4, called “P.T.”, at Gamescom 2014. In the wake of Silent Hills’ cancellation, Konami pulled the free-to-download P.T., preventing anyone who hadn’t already downloaded the game from grabbing a copy. We got some good news! Even so, just the fact that del Toro and Kojima still plan on working together is cause for celebration – and, in the long run, the Silent Hills name might not be all that important.
Still hoping to explore Silent Hills? Del Toro has a movie coming out in a few months – the Mia Wasikowska-led haunted house picture Crimson Peak – and Hideo Kojima’s next (and possibly final) Metal Gear Solid V hits at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, Konami being Konami, the project was unceremoniously cancelled, something we can’t help but attribute to the company’s changing relationship with Kojima.
