“You’re going to lay down in the back of that cop auto and he’s going to lay on top of you, and I want you to bear hug him and try to keep all the pressure on him as you can.’ So I did”, McGill said.
Efforts to reach McGill were not immediately successful on Monday, but in an interview with WLOX News McGill said the night seemed normal and it was “nothing out of the ordinary.”It was very insane and a traumatic experience”.
He then hid behind a vehicle in a parking lot for safety. CBS Evening News anchor and Managing Editor Scott Pelley spoke with witnesses carrying the weight of what they saw.
Rodney Sumter Jr. reportedly was shot three times and was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday. “I don’t know. There just shouldn’t be that type of hate”.
He then found a man – who he knew only as Rodney – who had been shot in both arms and his back. “So I took his shirt off, tied it around that one”, McGill recounted. “I took his shirt off, tied it around his other arm where the other gunshot wound was”, he said.
As he led Sumter through the parking lot, McGill said he applied pressure on his bullet wounds and walked him to the nearest officer, who told McGill to stay with Sumter in the patrol auto and squeeze his back to constrict the flow of blood.
Like I said, love wins.
McGill grabbed Sumter and guided him to a vehicle he was hiding behind and then to safety.
He said he only knew the guy’s first name.
Valencia College nursing student, Joshua McGill, 26, was the man who helped get Sumter to the emergency room. You’re going to be fine.
“‘I promise you, God’s got this”.
Sumter, a father of two, is now awaiting surgery at an Orlando-area hospital.
It is thought that the victim McGill helped was a man named Rodney Sumter, a dancer and bartender, whose friends and family reached out to thank the young nurse. Fla., shooting rampage that killed 50 nightclub patrons.
Janiel Gonzalez was inside the club when the shots were fired.
“So the police officer turned to me and said, ‘Okay, this is what the deal is”. “It was insane. Literally like a scene straight out of a movie”. You’re going to live. I had to lay on my back in the backseat.
Royster was with friends on the back patio of the Pulse Nightclub when the shooting began. “I didn’t realize what it was until I kind of looked inside and saw everybody running out”.
He said a man and woman took cover beneath his DJ booth.
“Everyone was having a good time and then just chaos broke loose at two o’clock”, he said.
