Gullit: Conte Wrong In Treatment Of Costa, Should Apologise
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admits it could be years before his troubled team are capable of dominating at home and overseas.
Having struggled in their Champions League games at the national stadium, Spurs lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Sunday in their first home league match there.
Michy Batshuayi’s Chelsea career has not exactly gone to plan – and his spell in London arguably hit a new low point against Tottenham on Sunday.
But Professor Cary Cooper of Manchester University believes the lack of recent success under the arch will start to take its toll on Tottenham’s players in the future.
“Of course for the warmth and respect that I earned there, they showed interest, but they wouldn’t pay a fortune”.
“For every coach it is important to have that continuity”. He made it clear Costa is not part of his squad and now it’s up to Costa, his people and the club to find a solution.
“When you understand your basis you have to go year by year to improve. Sometimes you don’t win, but you are preparing yourself to be better”.
Spurs have now only won two of their past 11 games at Wembley and saw their involvements in the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup extinguished at the venue last season.
“Now it is not enough”.
The 25-year-old Belgium global goalkeeper, who is one of the best in his position in the world, has said that the Tottenham supporters need to make more noise. His free-kick to open the scoring here was sublime and he was in the right place to power home the victor, even if Hugo Lloris should have done much better with his effort.
“Conte’s awareness of Chelsea’s vulnerability has prompted his public complaints about the club’s failure to strengthen his squad”.
Speaking from his native Lagarto earlier this week, Costa criticised Chelsea and Conte, saying he was “not a criminal”.
The Costa conundrum has complicated Chelsea’s summer, which has seen doubt over Conte’s position.
“He has got a two-year contract with the [club] and we are all second guessing what might be happening behind the scenes at the club”.
That sounds like very good news for Chelsea’s chances of getting Antonio Candreva.
“When I look at his quality, he has had fantastic experiences at the clubs that he has been at”, he told Goal. I think we were a little bit unlucky.
“But I’m very happy when I see this type of game”.
‘As far as I can tell, Chelsea could try to do something.
