Gun store owner declares his business Muslim
An Inverness, Fla. gun supply company produced and distributed a video in which a representative of the business appears before a Confederate flag and announces the “Muslim free zone” as a response to the recent shooting in Chattanooga, Tenn.
It’s unclear how Hallinan plans to enforce his prohibition on Muslims.
“I’m not going to be asking every person who walks in what their religious background is”.
The owner Andy Hallinan made a video explaining his decision. He said last week’s deadly shooting in Chattanooga was the final straw.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says what this store is doing violates federal law.
Abdulazeez – who described himself as a “Muslim redneck” and struggled with depression and substance abuse for years – spent seven months in Jordan shortly before the attack, which killed Marines Carson Holmquist, Thomas Sullivan, David Wyatt and Skip Wells and U.S. Navy sailor Randall Smith.
“But if they come in here and they say ‘hey, I don’t believe in Jihad.’ And, ‘I don’t believe that killing innocent people in the name of religion is the right thing to do, ‘ they are as American as you or I”, he said.
Hallinan, who said he studied the Koran, believes his views could make him a target, so he is stepping up his own security.
Hallinan also says that racism was on the decline in the US until President Obama took office.
Other changes to policy at the Inverness gun store include offering free concealed carry classes and opening the range up to the public at no charge.
“These bigoted declarations are no different than “whites only” signs posted in businesses during a period of our nation’s history that we had hoped was over”, said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. And they are calling for the Department of Justice to investigate.
