Gun under pillow discharges, kills sleeping toddler inside New Orleans home
Investigators think Deonca Kennedy was sleeping in a bed with the toddler when a gun beneath her pillow discharged, striking the boy in the chest, the Police Department said.
New Orleans police are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy.
The incident happened around 2:12 a.m.in the 5600 block of Red Maple Drive.
The grandmother was booked on three counts of negligent homicide, second degree cruelty to a juvenile and child desertion Wednesday. He says the grandmother worked as a security guard. New Orleans police will give out more updates on this incident as they become available.
Police said Kennedy refused to provide a statement or cooperate with detectives.
The child was shot in the chest and rushed to the hospital, where authorities said he died.
The child’s grandmother, Deonca Kennedy, was the only person in the house at the time, according to New orleans Police Department press release.
