A 19-year-old was shot in the leg at East Towne Mall Saturday afternoon, police said.
A 19-year-old man who was part of the initial dispute was struck.
A brawl erupted into gunfire at a Madison, Wisconsin, mall today, leaving one person wounded and police were hunting for the shooting suspect this evening, ABC News reports.
Madison police say that the immediate area where the shooting took place will be cordoned off for a while because of the investigation.
Dane County Communications confirms to WKOW that shots were fired at the mall but didn’t have any other details to release at this time. “There were no reports that any mall patrons are in danger at this time”, said Ricardo Franco, a Madison Police Department officer, adding that he had no information on possible injuries. He tells The Associated Press: “This is not an active shooter”. Witnesses said one of the men pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round.
“It’s been described to me as a fairly chaotic scene, as you might imagine with what has gone on in Paris and California”, Despain said, referring to recent terror attacks.
Armed police have been seen running through the mall while stores were on lockdown and shoppers were evacuated.
East Towne Mall is an 840,000-square-foot shopping center with 110 specialty retailers, according to its website. The FBI is investigating the case as an act of terrorism.
