Gunman, 3 others dead in shooting in central Maine
Maine State Police say they are still searching for answers after four people died in a Wednesday night shooting in Oakland. Police say dispatch received numerous 911 calls coming in around 8 p.m. Wednesday, including a call coming from one of the woman who was shot.
According to necn affiliate WCSH-TV, police said in a press conference early Thursday morning the alleged gunman killed two women and a man inside the home before turning the gun on himself. A 4-year-old girl was found unharmed inside.
The three victims were identified as Amanda Bragg, 30; Michael Muzerolle, 29; and Amy Derosby, 28.
Derosby’s boyfriend, Herman Derico, 42, shot them in an apartment before killing himself in the driveway, police said.
When police arrived, they found Derico’s body outside the home and the three victims inside a first-floor apartment.
Rescue crews are on the scene of a police cruiser involved crash in West Miami-Dade that left one officer injured.
Jason Thomas, a next-door neighbour, said he heard two gunshots and called 911. “Can you please help me?'” Thomas said.
“We don’t have a clear understanding of why this happened”, said Lt. Troy Gardner of the Maine State Police.
He said Muzerolle was a good neighbor who’d recently helped him put up a weather vane on a cupola on his house.
A 3-year-old girl inside the home at the time of the shootings was uninjured and is staying with her grandmother.
McCausland said detectives will talk to family and friends to try to understand what happened. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the child is now with other relatives.
