Gunman reported at primary school as pupils finish classes
A major police investigation has been launched into the shooting of a man near a primary school.
Officers from Police Scotland’s armed response unit were called to Dornoch Place in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, at about 3:10pm after reports of a man carrying a gun.
Reports linked the incident to the shooting of Carroll in a auto outside Asda in Robroyston in January 2010, less than a mile from yesterday’s incident.
One eyewitness also said she heard “what sounded like fireworks”. “Additional police patrols are in the area to provide public reassurance”. You don’t expect to hear about people being shot at in the street.
Officers rushed to St Helens Primary at Wester Cleddens Road in Bishopbriggs at around 3pm.
Terror broke out at Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, amid reports of three shots being fired near St Helen’s Primary School.
There was claims the van was then abandoned in the nearby Greenhill area and that a police chase may have followed.
“We just froze for a second, then we realised they were gun shots and we ran”.
“It’s a very quiet street and people keep themselves to themselves”.
One said: “I didn’t know what the sound was, then the next thing the helicopter was over the house”.
He said: ‘Please be assured that this incident did not take place within the local school grounds and does not involve anyone from the local school.
Detective Inspector Greig Wilkie said: “I would appeal to anyone in the area of Dornoch Place at this time and could have seen anything susp-icious to come forward and help with our inquiry”.
Neighbours told of hearing “three loud bangs”, while other residents spoke of their shock at returning from work to the huge police presence.
The area surrounding the school, which is based in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, was closed off due to the incident.
