Gunmen kill 4 police officers in Karachi
At least four policemen were killed and one injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on police mobile in Karachi today (Wednesday).
The police were attacked as they ate at a roadside restaurant in the port city of Karachi, police officer Naeem Sheikh said.
Pakistan’s security forces have arrested a “foreign-sponsored” group of militants who wanted to disrupt this week’s Independence Day celebrations by carrying out a suicide attack in the southern city of Karachi, sources said. The army said it had acted on a tip-off from intelligence agencies and carried out a raid in Karachi as part of the operation.
According to a statement by the ISPR, the terrorists had been planning for some time and had prepared an explosive laden vehicle and a motor cycle which they were to use on Independence Day.
Security forces also claimed to have recovered the explosive-laden vehicles along with arms and ammunition from the arrested men.
The army said it captured Bakhat Zaman, the deputy chief of the Pakistani Taliban, and other militants.
