Gurdaspur terror attack raised in Lok Sabha
New Delhi, The terror attack in Punjab is a result of intelligence failure, Congress leader Anand Sharma said on Monday. “That should be settled… we are working on that in principle… we hold our armed forces in highest esteem, their families also”, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said.
The origin of the terrorists is not yet clear, but Home Minister Rajnath Singh has issued a firm warning to Pakistan.
After a washout of Lok Sabha proceedings for a week, noisy protests by the opposition over Lalit Modi, Vyapam and other issues today led to repeated adjournments of the House.
However, many members, specially of the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal, demanded that the Gurdaspur terror attack should be discussed as it was a question of the country’s national security.
“This is a matter of national security”.
“There should not be any politics in such matters, we should all speak with one voice”.
Tathagat Satpathy of the Biju Janata Dal said: “This (the attack) is a serious matter”. While many Opposition parties have joined together in condemning this terrorist attack and are also expressing solidarity, it is unfortunate that the main Opposition party, which ruled the country for years started disturbing even those statements.
CPI-M’s M. Saleem said: “This is condemnable”.
Security has been enhanced across Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the Gurdaspur terror attack, which has so far claimed the lives of 10 people, including six civilians.
