Gurgaon shocker : 14 yr maid tortured, found in closet
A 14-year-old Jharkhand girl allegedly working as a domestic help was rescued by the officials of an NGO and Police from an almirah at a businessman’s house in Gurgaon’s Krishna Colony on Wednesday evening, The Indian Express reported.
On Wednesday night, a neighbour called the police helpline and complained that the family was torturing the girl. “She was hidden in the cupboard in their house”, said ACP Hawa Singh. Medical examinations show no bruises on the body said the police. The security forces took the girl into their custody. She has several burns and wounds from sharp objects on her back.
The victim belongs to an Adivasi family residing in Gumla town of Jharkhand. The girl has been working in the house from last one year.
“The woman hails from Jharkhand and was introduced right here by her uncle”.
When the girl regained consciousness in hospital, she said she had been starved for days, sources said. She was often beaten unconscious.
Not only this, the law seems to be missing a major facet of the child labour problem i.e child trafficking and sexual abuse. Shweta told them the only two children at home were their own toddlers. She was found inside the cupboard when a team of police along with activists from a non-governmental organization carried out a rescue operation after receiving a call to a helpline. “The girl was found in an unconscious state”, said Rishikant, a member of Shakti Vahini. A number of young teenage and adolescent girls are brought from tribal areas by agents who are involved in the racket. She is now at a shelter for children. Upon reaching the cities, these teenagers are sold off to financially strong families on a one-time payment basis or monthly installments.
