Gurley named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year
Todd Gurley suffered a devastating knee injury during his final year in college that left many wondering if it would affect him when he got to the pros. In his first year with the St. Louis Rams in 2015, Gurley put all the doubts to rest and took his place as the next superstar running back in the league. “It’s definitely a proud moment in my life so I’m gonna have my friends pick on me by crying but I’ll be fine”.
A turf toe injury ultimately cut his season down a game early, but there wasn’t much question about who would come away with Rookie of the Year honors.
Gurley is the first Rams offensive rookie of the year since quarterback Sam Bradford in 2010, but the team has now gone back-to-back in rookie honors because defensive tackle Aaron Donald was the AP’s defensive rookie of the year last season. For now, he’ll sit back and enjoy his Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
This season, Gurley finished with 1,106 yards rushing and scored 10 touchdowns despite playing in only 13 games.
“It means a lot, coming off an ACL (tear) a year ago”.
“This is for them”, Gurley said, clutching the award. After missing the first two games while recovering from surgery, he made an inauspicious debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers before busting out in a big way.
Cooper was a Pro Bowler, added to the roster late in the process. He’s also the third running back in Rams history to win the offensive award, joining Hall of Famers Jerome Bettis (1993) and Eric Dickerson (1983). “I can’t say nothing else about it. Thank you to my teammates, coaches and everybody that believed in me and helped me get to this point”.
