Gust of wind assists most freaky own goal ever recorded
A non-league player was left red-faced after netting this astonishing own-goal from just inside his own half.
The ball held up in the gael-force winds, swung back in mid-air and headed towards Rhys Madden’s goal.
But most own goals are scored from unlucky deflections or mix-ups inside the box.
Romford were playing Thurrock in the Isthmian League in rather windy conditions earlier this week when Thurrock defender Kamarl Duncan attempted a clearance.
Wind speeds reached 113km/h (70mph) during Romford’s 1-1 draw with Thurrock FC, which featured one of the most extraordinary own goals.
But the keeper has misjudged it as well.
After trying to send the ball upfield it was caught in the wind and ending up going backwards and the inevitable happened.
“At times it was a joke, and Romford’s goal was something you can only describe after seeing – it was laughable”, Stimson said, according to Sky Sports.
