Guus Hiddink returns to Chelsea as manager until end of season

Dutchman Guus Hiddink has been appointed interim manager for the remainder of the season, his second spell at the club.

Hiddink’s latest firefighting role comes with Chelsea only one point above the Premier League relegation zone following an alarming slump just seven months after sweeping to the title.

“I was buoyed by what I saw after [Fabio] Borini got the goal, we looked more positive and challenged Chelsea; there was fight there”.

Zenden, who played for Chelsea between 2001 and 2004 and was an assistant to Rafael Benitez during his stint as manager, told Omnisport : “He’s a well experienced manager”.

Chelsea fullback Branislav Ivanovic said he empathised with the club’s fans after sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd voiced their displeasure at the recent performances of some players.

First-team coach Holland, placed in caretaker charge following Mourinho’s sacking, said: “Clearly the supporters have a right to voice their opinion”.
