GVSU’s Tim Lelito in line for left guard spot with Saints
For starters, the Redskins signed former New Orleans Saints pass-rushing linebacker Junior Gallette.
The second-year player, who is coming off an impressive rookie campaign, was carted off the field during Friday’s training camp practice after suffering an apparent right knee injury.
Galette was arrested in January after an alleged domestic dispute.
Shortly before he was to meet with NFL officials, Galette was identified as the central figure in a 2013 beach brawl recorded on a YouTube video, in which a woman was struck at least twice with a belt. With his teammates circling him, Dixon began his day by doing a series of up-downs, a ceremonial welcome back of sorts.
“I’ve learned my lesson, and I just want to play football again”, he said in June. On day one of training camp a few of the Saints’ longest tenured players talked about leadership.
DEZ HAPPY: Dez Bryant took a couple of long pauses, first to search for a way to describe how he has matured and then to find the right word to describe skeptics who think he hasn’t changed at all. “But I think we felt strongly at this time, as we get ready to start this season, it was in the best interest of this year’s club”.
“I liked the fact that [McCloughan] was honest and up front with me and told me what he wanted out of me and what he expected out of me”, Galette said.
Galette was released after posting 22 sacks the past two seasons with the Saints. “It’s unfortunate what happened and we just have to move forward from that”.
New Orleans Saints’ Stephone Anthony (50) directs the defense at the teams NFL football training camp in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., Thursday, July 30, 2015.
Galette played five seasons for the Saints, and signed a four-year, $41.5 million contract last September after totaling 12 sacks in 2013. Figure out who we are, who we’re going to be on the team and embrace those roles, and try to make something special. The Saints had no real reason to do that, as he was signed for a couple more years and now the team has to handle a salary cap hit for Galette after releasing him. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman also requested the parties “engage in comprehensive, good-faith settlement discussions prior to the conference on August 12”. “You don’t have to worry about finding the call, so it makes the process a little bit faster”. Brian Orakpo left as a free agent. Washington had just 36 sacks last season.
Clearly, Washington owner Daniel Snyder doesn’t really care what the public or media thinks about his decisions (reference the team name).
While Payton remained tight-lipped about speaking on the Patriots’ predicament, the Saints did comment on the emotional tension with Galette. “Around 4:30 or so when it was raining, our first thought was we were going to be down on the lower field”, Payton said.
