Gwinnett Mom to 911: ‘My Kids Are Trying to Kill Me’
The dispatcher calls out to her repeatedly but no one answers.
Yvonne Erwin dialed the emergency number while her badly injured husband attempted to fend off sons, Cameron and Christopher Erwin, both of whom live at home with their parents.
Yvonne Ervin, 50, told the Gwinnett County dispatcher that she doesn’t know “why they’ve done this, I really don’t”, she says in the 8-minute call released on Tuesday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Two brothers drugged their parents before trying to kill them, according to a 911 call released by Gwinnett County Police Tuesday morning. They’re trying to kill us.
She said her husband went to the Snellville, Ga. home’s garage to try to distract the boys and get attention from neighbors by blowing the vehicle horn.
In the 911 call, CNN says Yvonne sounds groggy and distraught when she says, “Please send someone to my house”.
Moments later, a scream was heard before the line went silent. Either way, Long said, it was Yvonne’s 911 call that probably saved her and her husband’s life. The father, Zachary Erwin, collapsed as he walked out of the garage.
“I’m pretty sure the sons realized at this point the game was over”, he said, adding that otherwise, “they would have succeeded in severely injuring [their parents] to a point where it would have been non-survivable”. Zachary Ervin was severely injured and bleeding heavily. Yvonne Ervin has been released from a local hospital, but Zachary Ervin, who received the brunt of the attack, was still being treated, police said.
As brutal as the attack on the parents was, that wasn’t the full extent of it, according to police. The sons also plotted to burn the home down, and had “introduced natural gas into the house”, Long said. A preliminary hearing for Cameron and Christopher is scheduled for Friday on aggravated assault and arson charges, police said.
Under Georgia state law, 17-year-olds are considered adults in criminal cases, so both will be tried as adults, Long said.
“I tried to kill my f– parents”, he told officers in a squad auto, according to arresting documents.
The brothers were to be appointed defense attorneys Sunday, but it was not immediately clear if that had happened or who the attorneys are, CNN affiliate WSB reported. He was hospitalized in critical condition and is expected to survive.
