Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Responds to Colbert Spoof Video
Props to Goop for shrewdly flipping the script, and for finally realizing that, if you’re going to evangelize the virtues of ,000 gold-plated juicers and the emotional layers of “conscious uncoupling”, it helps to have a sense of humor.
Who’s laughing now? Gwyneth Paltrow’s team over at Goop had a cheeky response for Stephen Colbert on Thursday, September 24, following his spoof of celebrity lifestyle brands late last week – and the results are hilarious. And she makes fun of herself plenty (“It’s said that we here at Goop subsist exclusively on seaweed, air, and Tracy Anderson DVDs”), and the way in which celebrity lifestyle sites are pitted against each other (“After all, the media world will be eagerly awaiting a cat fight from you two lifestyle doyennes!”).
In what is possibly the wittiest of all blog posts, “6 Fail-Proof Tips for Launching a Men’s Lifestyle Site”, Goop proved they cannot only take a joke, but that they can also take them one step further.
“Stop by Covetton House today, and treat you to some me”, he says in a parody promo clip. In fact, I envy you.
“Our how-to, evergreen beauty content is SEO gold-and you can link-bait the shit out of it”.
“Take, for example, achieving the perfectly imperfect man bun – subject line: The Panty Dropper of Hairstyle”, the post reads. “This historic recipe has been passed down through generations of Vermont farmers, only to be resurrected in the alleys of Bushwick by two brothers who hand-craft every batch from meticulously sourced ginger, organic apple cider vinegar (raw, of course), and the highest-grade maple syrup”.
Then there’s perhaps our favorite, erm, tip: “Embrace your babymaker”. “Colbert, we think this is one that will really hit home for you, both personally and professionally”.
