Hack on Ghostbusters’ Leslie Jones investigated by Homeland Security
An image of the dead gorilla Harambe also appeared in an apparent racist insult, along with personal photos of Jones posing with stars including Rihanna, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West, according to reports.
The department’s cyber-crimes unit has reportedly joined the FBI’s investigation into how someone was able to hack into the “Saturday Night Live” comedian’s website, iCloud and cell phone.
“The investigation is now ongoing”, a Homeland Security spokeswoman said in a statement to EW.
“ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in NY does now have an open investigation”, the entertainment-news website quoted an unnamed spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security. Jones herself has yet to comment on this latest attack.
ICE Public Affairs Officer Rachael Yong Yow said the agency does not release information related to active investigations.
The Department of Homeland Security said Thursday that it is investigating the hack. Jones announced she was leaving Twitter because of the trolls, leading Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to reach out to her.
The attack was accompanied by derogatory imagery pointed towards Jones.
If that type of racially charged harassment sounds familiar, that’s because Jones was a target of Twitter trolls just last month.
TMZ first reported the hack. “I know we had our differences after my review of Ghostbusters but I wish her all the best at what must be a deeply upsetting time”.
