Hackers selling lifetime Netflix, HBO subscriptions
Hackers are selling access to a Netflix account for as low as $0.50. Otherwise known as the “Dark Web” marketplace and apparently there are online venues to purchase Netflix, HBO GO, Spotify, and other venues where someone can purchase these services much cheaper, according to Business Insider. These marketplaces can be accessed only by using a special internet browser called TOR that hides IP addresses.
According to McAfee Labs, stolen HBO NOW and HBO GO accounts, as well as other cable streaming services, can be bought for less than $10 whilst premium sports services cost about $15. It is made available through the so-called Dark Web, a part of the World Wide Web that is not indexed by search engines, the Daily Express explained. So it looks like the hackers are getting more creative than just the typical acquiring of of information and selling it by itself.
Samani says some of the accounts are paid for with stolen credit cards, but others are hacked into and used as long as the real owner doesn’t realize it.
Firstly, security experts advise reviewing your “Recently Watched” section on your account homepage to indicate if there are shows or films there that you haven’t watched – which could indicate a secret second user.
Details are being sold online for less £1 on the black market with Netflix users left completely unaware they are paying for someone to watch movies online.
