‘Hairspray’ To Be NBC’s Next Live Musical
“Aside from that, I think he’s in better shape than he’s ever been”.
Mr Greenblatt, who heads the NBC network, described Trump as “one of the most important political figures of our time”.
During the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt was asked about Fallon’s health. We had a couple businesses that we were doing with him – Apprentice and the [Miss USA and Miss Universe] pageants. “That’s going to inform what the next show is going to be”.
Following the blockbuster ratings success of The Sound of Music, numbers slipped for Peter Pan before rebounding for The Wiz.
This year’s musical will be “Hairspray”, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Hairspray features a Tony-winning score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and a Tony-winning book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.
Hairspray is set in 1960s Baltimore and follows an ambitious teen, Tracy Turnblad, who wins a spot on a popular dance show and becomes an overnight sensation.
We don’t disagree, election season usually results in a ratings spike for late night shows with topical political sketches.
Written and directed by John Waters, the original “Hairspray” movie cast Ricki Lake, Divine, Debbie Harry and Jerry Stiller in major roles and made just $6.7 million at the box office in 1988, but established itself as a cult classic.
They may be calling on some of those names again – Christopher Walken starred in Peter Pan as Captain Hook two years ago, and Elijah Kelley and Queen Latifah were standouts in The Wiz as The Scarecrow and the Wizard, respectively.
