Haley: Rubio Team ‘Looks Like a Benetton Commercial’
Nikki Haley is endorsing Marco Rubio ahead of Saturday’s first-in-the-South Republican presidential primary.
It began airing in Greenville, South Carolina, on Tuesday evening, according to CMAG/Kantar Media, a company that tracks political advertising. All are chasing Trump across SC and the nation, each hoping for an eventual one-on-one showdown with the front-runner, starting with a surprise showing in SC.
The results contrasted with those of an NBC News/Wall Street Journal national poll that put Cruz ahead of Trump among Republicans by 28 percent to 26 percent.
But, Trump leads Rubio 33 percent to 21 percent among self-described Republican voters.
Nikki Haley endorsed Rubio as the Republicans’ best hope for winning the White House on November 8, a big boost to Rubio and a blow to Bush, who had lobbied hard for her to pick him.
Republican presidential candidate Sen.
She coaxed the SC legislature into removing the controversial Confederate battle flag – seen as a symbol of slavery to its critics – from the state capitol grounds in the wake of the attack. “Take a picture of this, because this new group of conservatives taking over America looks like a Benetton commercial”, Haley said of the diverse group.
The real estate developer again hinted he might sue Cruz, who was born in Canada to a US citizen mother, over his eligibility to run for president.
Rubio’s campaign has made a concerted effort to keep the issue in front of voters, playing on Cruz’s “TrusTED” slogan with puns like “BusTED” and “CalculaTED”.
The New York businessman also found himself embroiled in a dispute with none other than Pope Francis, who said Trump’s proposal to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border is un-Christian.
Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and John Kasich will make their case to voters of the Palmetto State at CNN’s second SC town hall Thursday night. With the backing of veteran South Carolina Sen.
At a Jeb Bush rally in North Charleston, Joseph Robinson of Charleston offered a different angle on supporting Israel.
Carson and Kasich are considered long shots in SC.
Rubio’s campaign also released a new TV commercial featuring the SC governor. That portends well for him not only in SC but in upcoming contests in several southern states including some of the so-called “Super Tuesday” contests in Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana. Rubio previously favoured a pathway to citizenship for immigrants in the country illegally, but now says border security is the priority. “He doesn’t have one Republican endorsement from the Senate and he works with the Senate”.
