Half of all United States people think ‘some’ Muslims are anti-American
This was incidentally his maiden visit to any American mosque during his presidency. It is directed at a perceived or real Muslim threat through the maintenance and extension of existing disparities in economic, political, social and cultural relations, while rationalizing the necessity to deploy violence as a tool to achieve “civilizational rehab” of the target communities (Muslim or otherwise).
The study was released on the same day President Barack Obama visited an American mosque for the first time during his presidency, offering a high-profile rebuttal of harsh Republican election-year rhetoric against Muslims.
What’s hurting the country badly are hate-mongers who would rather betray American values by appealing to bigotry than address the reality of 2 million to 3 million American Muslims, the overwhelming majority of them patriotic, who are as entitled to dignity and respect as everyone else. Perhaps, after completing the visit to India and the present time, President Obama has learned some lessons.
Clifford said: “If visiting a mosque is something you feel you can’t do, consider simply reading up a bit more about what Muslims believe through resources recommended by groups like Mahabba or simply inviting a person of another faith round for a cup of tea”. But even in recounting America’s historic commitment to religious tolerance, Obama misrepresents the Founders’ views of Islam. The PAC hopes to see more Muslim Americans run for office, so the voice of a much-maligned minority community can be heard. “Islam”, he says, “comes from the root word Salam, meaning peace”, when we already know Islam means “submission” He blathers on how “muslim Americans keep us safe, they are our policemen, our firefighters, they are in the Dept. of Homeland Security” (OMG) and that it is wicked of us infidels (non-muslims) to be concerned about them. The threat from Islamic terrorists like ISIS and al-Qaida is real, but to brand all Muslims because of the actions of a few is not only unfair it is, unfortunately, far from unprecedented in America. So the president presented what he called “some basic facts”. “They’re not defending Islam”, Obama said. Muslim Americans can keep reaching out and sharing their faith to help more Americans understand Islam’s tradition of peace, charity and justice.
Brother Rachid, like most former Muslims, believes Islam is a unsafe ideology and not peaceful. “The world’s 1.6 billion Muslims are as diverse as humanity itself”. But their denunciations, they say, often receive little media attention. “They are white and brown and black”. Drawing a parallel with African-Americans’ struggle for broad societal acceptance, he noted, “there was a time when there were no black people on television”. That diversity is represented here today.
“We’re going to have to be partners in this process”.
The president also spoke at length about the history of religious freedom in America, saying that the First Amendment protects religion from the state but also protects the state from those who would use religious animosity for their own ends.
Obama’s speech to the Islamic Society of Baltimore was a predictable follow-up to his 2009 speech to the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, where he asked forgiveness for America’s past sins and pledged to be an equal partner with Islamic nations. They were part of the flow of immigrants who became farmers and merchants.
It is unfortunate that Rubio, coming off a strong showing in the Iowa caucuses, can not bring himself to hail a positive effort to bring Americans together. The first Islamic center in New York City was built in the 1890s. “A Muslim American designed the skyscrapers of Chicago”.
