Halftime Notes: Rams at Redskins (Week 2)
The Washington Redskins are looking to notch their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon against the St. Louis Rams.
Things were a defensive struggle early on has on the first three possessions the teams combined for a single first down before a punt. Both the Panthers and Rams have very favorable lines for the amount of uncertainty their opponent has. But those same people probably would have expected the Rams to lose to Seattle and beat Washington. Dustin Hopkins’ kick made it 7-0.
It’s been the tale of two quarterbacks so far. Foles is 7/16 for 59 yards with not touchdowns, or interceptions, though the first half. Besides the 123 yards rushing, Jones also caught 3 passes for 23 yards, giving him 146 total yards. Cousins was almost picked off by cornerback Trumaine Johnson, but the ball slipped thorough his hands forcing the Redskins to punt.
Being an National Football League ref isn’t always a glamorous job, just ask the back judge who’s working the Rams-Redskins game.
The Rams got off to a slow start in Washingtonn, nothing new to anyone that watched the team play on the road a season ago. He looks shaky and unsettled.
In all, St. Louis was 2 for 12 on third-down conversions. This was not the start they had envisioned. His only touchdown of the day came in the final minute of regulation when he hit Lance Kendricks for a 37-yard score that sent the game into overtime, where St. Louis eventually won. After a 35-yard run by Alfred Morris in a three tight end set, Matt Jones took it 39-yards to the house two plays later for his first of hopefully many touchdowns as a Redskin. Morris is over 50 yards eight carries and Jones is over 80 yards and a touchdown on just nine carries. In the receiving end, Jared Cook had 85 yards in five receptions while Cunningham added 77 yards in four receptions. While playing his debut game with the Rams, Nick Foles impressed nearly everyone, particularly Rams’ huge fan base.
With the Rams getting likely getting Gurley back, and the weapons on the outside, they will be too much for the Redskins to handle.
The Rams were unable to do anything with the ball on offense, ending any chance of a comeback.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Redskins are 3-point home underdogs to the Rams today after opening as a 3-point dog.
St. Louis will need to make some serious adjustments if they hope to claw their way back into this one. Not all of those numbers were against teams as stout as the Rams should be.
