Hall heads London run of Bowie musical ‘Lazarus’
The song Lazarus also appeared on Blackstar, Bowie’s final album which came out two days before his death on his 69 birthday.
David Bowie wrote the music and lyrics to Lazarus, which was a sell-out in NY at the end of last year and into January of this year.
The New York run sold out within hours.
Several actors from the original NY production will reportedly reprise their roles in the London run of the musical including Michael C. Hall as Thomas Newton, Michael Esper as Valentine and Sophia Anne Caruso as the Girl. The musical is based of the 1963 novel The Man Who Fell To Earth, which Bowie starred in the film adaption of in 1976.
David Bowie’s stage musical Lazarus is to open in London this autumn. The book had a heavy influence on Bowie’s early career. It got good critical notices when it opened nine months ago, with one typical review from the Guardian describing it as “unapologetically weird… and oddly intriguing”. An opening gala in December marked Bowie’s last public appearance before he died on January 10 from an undisclosed battle with cancer.
The critical reaction to Lazarus’s NY run was largely positive, but the show confused many reviewers.
Lazarus features costume design by An D’Huys, video design by Tal Yarden, sound design by Brian Ronan, choreography by Annie-B Parson and musical direction by Henry Hey.
The London production of Lazarus is produced by Robert Fox Ltd. and Jones/Tintoretto Entertainment.
