The German just shaded his compatriot Sebastian Vettel, who is one place ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo in fourth. For last year’s victor, it was proof that he had the confidence to resist the temptation of the softs. They think we’re just sitting here in luxury.

Rosberg was first out on track in qualifying, closely followed by Hamilton, who was almost one second faster than Rosberg on their first laps. “We have never seen anything like it before”. “I just didn’t find the pace”.

After taking the fight to Mercedes at Silverstone, Williams found life hard on the tight, twists of the Hungaroring, but not to the same extent as they had in Monaco.
Valtteri Bottas for Williams, Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull), Felipe Massa in the second Williams, youngster Max Verstappen for Toro Rosso and Romain Grosjean in the Lotus rounded out the top 10. Qualifying has been good, particularly my first run in Q3 which has really given me those pole positions.
