Hampshire Poppy appeal launched in Southampton
Southport FC captain Luke Foster will wear a special captain’s armband to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, as part of a campaign set up by the National League and Royal British Legion.
Mr Candlin said: “We will have serving military from RAF Cranwell and Digby, with the Reviewing Officer being provided by RAF Cranwell this year, and a variety of veterans and members of the Army and RAF Cadets along with Scouts and Guides”.
“The support the residents of Worcester give to the armed forces is second to none and it has been brilliant to see so many people here today”.
In response to his comments, Claire Rowcliffe, Head of Regional Fundraising with The Royal British Legion said: “Having the support of The National League for this year’s Poppy Appeal means a lot”.
David Waldron, county chairman of The Royal British Legion, who gave a speech during the ceremony flanked by several standard bearers, said: “It went extremely well, despite the rainy weather”.
The event has now become an annual tradition, to show the council’s support for the veterans charity, which previous year raised nearly £60,000 from poppy sales in Sunderland city centre.
The Sleaford branch of the Royal British Legion held a short, poignant service at the town’s cemetery last Tuesday to mark the centenary since the biggest loss of life in one battle for the Lincolnshire Regiment during the First World War.
There is a problem in that the majority of collectors in the local area are getting on in years and volunteers are required throughout the whole area. Prayers and a brief address were given by Reverend Nick Daw.
Remember is described, appropriately, as a red ale and a donation from each pint sold will be made to the Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
