Hannah Awolowo Is Dead
He said the best way the progressives can eulogise the deceased is to stand up for nationhood as envisioned by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Lawal dropped the hint while delivering Buhari’s condolence message to the Awolowo family.
“While we understand that death is inevitable, there are times that we secretly wish that our loved and great ones would live forever”.
“This is something that saddens us”.
“So, we ask our brother, our son, the Vice-President to relate this message to him”, he said.
Others were former Ogun governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and wife, Derin.
A chieftain of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Dr. Kunle Olajide, yesterday said the entire Yoruba race, is shocked by the death of Mama HID Awolowo, coming a few weeks to her centenary birthday anniversary.
Osinbajo, who is a son-in-law to the deceased, spoke while commiserating with sympathisers at the Awolowo’s residence in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, President Buhari told the Osinbajos that late Hannah Idowu was one of the greatest female political icons in Africa who was deservingly revered for her remarkable virtues.
“May the Almighty God give us all, the fortitude to bear her demise and grant Mama’s soul eternal rest”. Papa died on a Saturday and Mama also died on a Saturday. Surely, she will live forever, particularly in the minds of those who benefitted from her husband’s vision in human capital development. “She had never attended any of such meetings, yesterday was the first time she attended”, he said.
“Indeed, Ogun State has lost a mother, who has always been supportive of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led government”. We must all stand up because of the situation Nigeria had found herself.
“Mama’s life was one selfless devotion as she sacrificed so much of her youth, her adult years and ultimately her life for the benefit of her people in spite of harassment, arrest and even death which were very real possibilities”. And for the living, particularly those in public office, we must all draw from her example of service, consistency and commitment to great ideals.
“She lived for this nation, everyday of her life”. We should all make good use of our time like we saw in mama’s life.
“Firm but noble, full of charm, grace and beauty, her intellect combined with her unique resilience made her one of a kind”.
