Haren dealt by Marlins to Cubs for 2 minor leaguers
According to a report from Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cubs have acquired starting pitcher Dan Haren from the Miami Marlins.
As indicated by a Tweet from Gordon Wittenmyer, the Cubs are to acquire starting pitcher Dan Haren from the Marlins.
Haren has been solid this season for the Marlins, compiling a 7-7 record to go along with a 3.42 ERA and 88 strikeouts. It was a 1-0 loss to the Washington Nationals, as Haren’s biggest mistake in the game resulted in a Ryan Zimmerman home run.
The Cubs almost traded Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Angels for Haren after the 2012 season – until the deal collapsed over concerns about Haren’s medicals.
Haren will earn $10 million this season – all paid by the Dodgers stemming from terms of his trade to the Marlins last December.
UPDATE- Haren is coming to the Cubs.
The two prospects coming to Miami are short stop prospect Elliot Soto and right-handed pitcher Ivan Pineyro Neither are going to turn into stars anytime soon, but it is a solid return for a guy that does not even touch 90 on the radar gun anymore.
Personally, I like this deal with the Marlins.
On Wednesday, they traded veteran right-hander Mat Latos and underachieving first baseman Michael Morse to the Dodgers as part of a three-way deal that also included the Atlanta Braves and received three minor league pitchers in what was essential a salary dump. “Dan Haren, in my time in the game, is one of the most professional mentors that I’ve ever been around”.
Overall, it seems like a smart move for the Cubs and a win for a team trying to contend for a Wild Card spot. I tip my hat to what Dan Haren has been able to come here and do.
