Harper quits Real Madrid for Brighton
Harper decided to end his spell with Real Madrid after the club decided to get rid of their “C” team, which would have been the team the Scottish youth global would have made the step up to after spending the season with the club’s under-19s.
Jack Harper has completed a move to Brighton and Hove Albion, the club have confirmed.
Harper was once compared to Robin van Persie by Scotland performance director Mark Wotte.
“At Real Madrid, Jack can float all over the place, which he does. But with us, he has to be more disciplined”, said former Sunderland manager Sgrabia earlier this year.
“He’s an exceptionally gifted lad but we can’t carry him”.
Harper was joined by another Brit in the Spanish capital two years ago when Gareth Bale moved to Real, ‘It’s an inspiration seeing them because that’s obviously what I want to be in a year or two.
“In some cases, if it’s going well, he can be a good luxury”. After talks with Chris Hughton, he seems to have chosen the latter.
Speaking to Brighton’s official website, Hughton said that “there is no doubting [the] pedigree” of his new signing, a player he believes “has a lot of potential“.
The report in the Guardian says that he will be out for six weeks but will be part of the first team and rejected interest from the Premier League.
This would have been the level that Harper would have played with next season but Real still wanted to keep him.
