Harris struggles, No. 10 Florida loses 27-2 to No. 14 FSU
The Florida Gators take on the FSU Florida State Seminoles today in a game on the college football schedule which sees both in-state rivals now nationally ranked with each enjoying an active winning streak, and each looking for state bragging rights for Florida for the year. Treon Harris gets sacked four times. “They played their tails off”, Coach Jim McElwain said.
Florida announced prior to the game it had suspended leading receiver Demarcus Robinson for the fourth time in three seasons.
Robinson has caught 505 yards and two touchdowns this season. The junior from Fort Valley, Georgia, has talent, but has been benched and/or demoted twice this season and suspended twice as a freshman and for the 2014 season opener against Idaho, a game that was canceled because of thunderstorms. Even if the Cardinal can take down the Trojans, they would still need significant upheaval ahead of them – think Clemson, Iowa and Alabama losing their title games – in order to even begin any type of realistic playoff talk. That goes to this cop, who saw an errant pass from Maguire come flying toward the stands and knew this was his moment to shine. Austin Hardin’s 37-yard field goal attempt was blocked. To get their fifth consecutive win, they were going to have to turn things up against FSU – and that just never happened. “That’s our responsibility and we’ll get one. There are a lot of good running backs in the country and he’s certainly one of them”, Fisher said.
All right, maybe that’s being a little ridiculous, but so is the idea that a Gator offense so utterly on the fritz should be expected to make any headway at all against Alabama in Saturday’s SEC championship game.
Florida’s lone bright spots were running back Kelvin Taylor and a defense that allowed 158 yards through three quarters. He had four runs of at least 20 yards, a long of 32 yards and averaged 7.0 yards per carry.
The unit faded down the stretch, though.
He also went to law school at Miami, and he said he roots for the Gators and then the Hurricanes when Miami plays Florida State.
“We just gave [Cook] that many opportunities”.
Florida State (10-2) has completed its regular season and will await its bowl destination on selection day on December 6.
The No. 14-ranked Seminoles snuffed out the No. 10 Florida Gators, 27-2, before a record 90,916 fans at Florida Field.
Jimbo Fisher, wearing a charcoal gray suit, came to his press conference a few minutes late.
Meanwhile, the win propelled Florida State to No. 10 in the AP poll and No. 9 in the coaches poll.
Find out where Florida State is ranked once the polls are released later today. They won’t be competing for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship, but will likely end up competing in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve, also in Atlanta. The inexperienced Seminoles remained competitive throughout the season, despite enduring nagging growing pains, but eventually dropped two out of three games in the second half of the year.
