Harrison Ford wants to sleep
Even if I wish “The Force Awakens” was striking further out into new territory rather than reasserting its credibility, it’s nice at least to see that Abrams and Disney want to reassure fans who loved many different manifestations of the “Star Wars” universe.
The film’s Hollywood premiere earlier this week saw an army of Stormtroopers on the red carpet, while fans camped out ahead of the first public screening.
“That giant wheezing sound you hear is a collective sigh of relief, heaved by now-legion generations of “Star Wars” fans, from toddlers to their grandparents, who can rest assured that the Force is still with the franchise they grew up on or grew old with”, The Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday said. I won’t reveal anything about Luke Skywalker, as his storyline remains a mystery to fans that haven’t seen the film.
The new Star Wars was shot on Kodak film, and thanks to a number of other major productions using Kodak as well, Kodak says it may be profitable starting next year. The story is set approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983).
Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times was also lukewarm, saying that the new movie was “only at its best in fits and starts”. “I’m just hoping it keeps to the tradition of good versus evil… and won’t go too haywire”.
Several viewers pointed out how the new film in the iconic series successfully managed to appeal to nostalgia as well as introduce a new set of characters.
Harrison Ford eases back into Hans Solo so effortlessly it’s like seeing an old friend who really hasn’t changed at all. And, of course, there’s Harrison Ford, still exuding charm and bantering with Chewie, and Carrie Fisher, gracefully assuming a Leia with gravitas. And you can still get tickets to see the movie without paying the $100 or more some are asking for on Craigslist. “I’ve just worked with Mark Hamill on Squadron 42 and he was an absolute delight”, the Game of Thrones star said.
The closing scene is not only one of the best moments in any Star Wars movie, but one of the best moments on screen of 2015. I think it’s a worthy effort. “Whereas some people do not like either where they came from or who they grew up with, I’m very lucky – in that all of those things were positive to me”, he said. The most hyped film of all time, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, opens in cinemas in France, South Africa and several other countries Wednesday, a decade after the last episode of the space saga.
