Harry Kane confirms in talks to extend Tottenham Hotspur contract
With a restful global break behind him, the return of last seasons Harry Kane came to fruition with two late goals securing a dramatic comeback for Spurs against West Ham at the weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur ended a seven-game winless run over the weekend when they beat West Ham 3-2 thanks to two late goals from star man Harry Kane.
Harry Kane took his tally of London derby goals to 18 with a brace against West Ham on Saturday.
With Spurs trailing 2-1 and the clock showing 88 minutes, Kane popped up to convert substitute Heung-Min Son’s teasing cross – and then in added time smashed home a penalty won by Son in the same spot the Korean forward had created the equaliser.
Kane was Tottenham’s saviour by the end of the match, scoring two goals in quick succession to hand Spurs a 3-2 win.
Speaking after the game, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “It was really important to get the three points, it was a very tough game, I’m very pleased with the performance”.
“I’ll always be there for the gaffer if he wants to pick me”.
Michail Antonio had nodded West Ham into the lead on the half hour, cancelled out by Harry Winks strike.
Pochettino and his assistant Jesus Perez were barking out orders as their team set up to defend a corner and their anxiety proved justified as Cheikhou Kouyate crashed a header against the crossbar, Reid scuffed the follow-up and Antonio was left free to head home from close range.
Spurs were level, however, in the 51st minute. He had an effort drop just wide of the post after West Ham failed to clear a Vincent Janssen cross, before actually putting the ball past Hammers goalkeeper Darren Randolph.
Spurs almost turned things around completely shortly after, Randolph redeeming himself with a fantastic save from Eric Dier’s header, after Rose put in another risky cross.
With Simone Zaza and Edimilson Fernandes replacing the tiring Andre Ayew and and Sakho on the hour, both Antonio and Rose were booked for fouling each other in quick succession. We went to do a bit of shape and I couldn’t quite believe it. Lanzini stepped up and hit an nearly unsavable penalty to put West Ham back into the lead.
Harry Kane says he is happy at Spurs. His challenge on Winston Reid after 66 minutes led referee Mike Dean to award the Hammers a penalty.
“And the foul from Reid is a big blow, because he was excellent”. Unused subs: Vorm, Onomah, Wimmer, Carter-Vickers.
