Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Is Next AR Game From Niantic
Since the sticks and branches are (hopefully) stationary, you don’t need any sort of incense or anything to attract them. It was initially formed as an internal startup within Google, but it later became an independent firm in 2015.
Niantic Labs had tremendous success with Pokémon Go, which paired their expertise in building location-based augmented reality mobile experiences with a top-flight IP with a ravenous fan base.
Going off a tweet on Twitter, the writer of the TechCrunch post, Darrell Etherington, got this news from Kris Able on Twitter, who claims this news comes direct from Warner Bros.
Little is now known about the game, but it’s expected to rely heavily on augmented reality technology, as Pokemon Go does.
While this app is now official, neither Niantic or Warner Bros. have released any information regarding how the game will play or what its exact premise is. The name Portkey stands to reason as it’s a major plot element in the Harry Potter book series.
It’s early days still, so details are slim.
The game is set to hit next year at an unspecified time, but we wouldn’t be surprised for Fall release, in conjunction with Fantastic Beasts 2, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Pokemon Go recently changed its Raid Boss list.
“At Niantic, our goal is to leverage technology to create real world experiences that help people to discover the wonderful, and often magical parts of the world around them”, said John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic, Inc.
In other Harry Potter news, it’s been announced that the entire soundtrack will be released as a massive vinyl boxset later this month. You can also choose to buy a Maguss wand to use alongside the mobile app, which is available on iOS and Android. You could trawl through Tumblr, Reddit and Twitter and find any number of fan theories about Harry’s parents dying and Snape’s love for Lilly Potter.
