Hart hamstring injury is ‘nothing’
Joe Hart was forced off with a hamstring injury as Manchester City lost 1-0 to Juventus in the Champions League in a blow that adds to a growing injury crisis at the Etihad.
Both Fernadinho and substitute Raheem Sterling were guilty of wasting superb chances at Juventus Stadium and with City now likely to finish second in the group, Quinn believes Manuel Pellegrini’s side could pay the price for those missed opportunities when the draw for the last 16 comes around.
With just one set of fixtures remaining in the group stages of this season’s Champions League the jostling for qualification and positions is firmly taking shape. “We hope we don’t lose him, but if for some reason he can not play I have trust in Willy Caballero”.
Mandzukic answered his critics in the 18th minute when Alex Sandro sent over a cross from the left and the Croatia forward held off Nicolas Otamendi’s challenge to volley the ball in from close range. It was a 50-50 game and we had a lot more chances than them but we were not clinical. Those were goals that could have essentially put the game on ice and would have prevented us from having a few of those late-game heart-up-in-your-throat situations that always seem to happen when watching this team.
“[Injuries?] As for Joe Hart – it is impossible to know how serious his injury is at this point”.
The Citizens must hope that alongside winning their own game, Juventus lose their final tie away at if they are to progress as group winners. City will now wait for a full assessment although Hart later described the hamstring problem as “nothing, just a little tight”. City are missing defenders Eliaquim Mangala, Pablo Zabaleta and Vincent Kompany, midfielders Samir Nasri and David Silva, and striker Wilfried Bony. “We need to play in Europe the same way as we did against Sevilla”. Pellegrini will no doubt be anxious to get his skipper back to fitness, but the Belgian is likely to miss at least a couple more weeks. “We are playing a team that has suffered a very heavy defeat in the Premier League”. “Sevilla have to win that game to try to qualify for the Europa League”, said Pellegrini.
