Harvey misses mandatory Mets workout
Keith Hernandez was “astounded” and “flabbergasted” to learn of pitcher Matt Harvey’s lateness to the Mets’ workout Tuesday. “I know we had a mandatory workout and the last thing I want to do is not be here with my team”.
“You have to ask Matt”, Alderson said when pressed for Harvey’s whereabouts at the start of the workout.
Harvey blamed tunnel traffic as the reason for his late arrival, but while on the phone with Collins, he was told to turn around.
But just as they were about to start their September stretch drive, the edict from Harvey’s agent Scott Boras about the innings limit on the pitcher’s tender right arm messed up the Mets’ mojo. As the pitching change was made, Hershiser – who started Game Three on three days rest the previous night – put on his uniform and sprinted into the Dodgers’ bullpen. “It’s major news to you guys because it’s a story and I certainly get that, but we handle that kind of stuff in-house”, Collins said Wednesday.
Besides wishing the team well, fans send their thoughts and prayers for Rusty Staub as the Mets Hall of Famer suffered a heart attack while flying back to New York from Ireland this past Thursday.
2. And they’ve this season’s best decanter in the hollow, very. He’ll be with us [Thursday] at the workout. “Certainly today is a step forward, so we are encouraged”, Alderson said. All three of them know what it’s like to be a kid playing in October.
Third baseman Alex Guerrero, outfielder Chris Heisey and catcher Austin Barnes are still with the team but aren’t expected to make the NLDS roster. But they’re pitchers, just like anyone else. Not Kershaw. Not Greinke. “I think you’ve got to like the two guys I’m pitching”. 300 hitting after one of the worst offensive seasons of his career.
The Mets’ plan was to use their four “young gun” starters in this series, with 27-year-old Jacob deGrom and 23-year-old Noah Syndergaard starting Games 1 and 2, respectively, and 24-year-old Steven Matz following Harvey in Game 4.
