Harwich pays tribute to fallen heroes on Remembrance Day
The man was arrested today in connection with the theft of the box which contains money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
And that winning bid came from ex-serviceman Matthew Thomas from Aberdare, who had his tour of Afghanistan cut short after he lost part of his arm in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explosion.
Sean Langton, the chairman of the Aberystwyth branch of the British Legion, said he hoped the agreement would continue in future years and said he was impressed by the level of support from the public for the Remembrance Parade and poppy ceremony.
Not that long ago, a lot of people viewed Remembrance Day as just another statutory holiday (it’s not a holiday in all provinces) – a chance to sleep in, take care of a few chores around the house and (gasp) get an early start on their Christmas shopping.
“It is so important we remember those who gave their lives in conflict – now so, more than ever”.
And the annual Remembrance Day service at the Estevan Comprehensive School had its largest crowd in many years. We feel, at the very least, it should be planned after the ceremonies.
Members of the Royal British Legion also gathered at The Forum in Towcester last week to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal in South Northamptonshire.
As we approach the final hours of our national Poppy Campaign, I want to thank all Canadians for your support and dedication for this campaign.
All of the proceeds raised from the sale of poppies goes toward providing veterans in need with financial assistance.
Sunday will see services of remembrance take place all over the UK.
Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos will be laying a wreath at the Royal Canadian Legion Br.
There will also services in Chipping Norton and Shipston-on-Stour on Sunday. “I’ll never forget and I honour those who served'”. My staunt collectors are getting frail so we are struggling to get more people to do collections in town. My eldest son is now carrying on this family tradition, as a member of the 872 RCAF Air Cadet Squadron.
Like many others, I will wear my poppy with pride this month, in celebration of our incredible Armed Forces.
