Hasbro adding Rey to ‘Star Wars’ Monopoly
Liu Cuiping, vice director of research for EntGroup, said she still expected “The Force Awakens”, which opened in China on Saturday, to pull in around $230 million in the country.
The Star Wars fandom on Twitter pushed back against that explanation, noting that, using that logic, the inclusion of Finn in the game might be considered a spoiler.
The current version of the Monopoly game has the characters of Finn, Kylo Ren, and old favorites like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.
Hasbro has finally realised that no, adding a female token into a game like Star Wars Monopoly won’t make less people buy it and yes, some people might even want to play as the film’s main character. This includes its many misdirection’s in the build-up to its release, lack of adequate character development and not giving the films new stars a chance in the spotlight.
“The Force Awakens” raked in $88.3 million over New Year’s weekend, becoming the highest domestic grossing film of all time totaling $740.3 million in just 19 days. “Why didn’t you put in Rey that’s kind of silly”, Annie Rose wrote.
“Marvel fans started a “#WheresNatasha” hashtag in May after Avengers: “Age of Ultron merchandise excluded Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow hero.
“Without her, there is no The Force Awakens”, Annie Rose said in her letter, which was tweeted by her mother, Carrie Goldman.
Annie’s letter caught the attention of Hasbro, and the company responded by saying it would be including her in future games. This is not a women’s issue.
Hasbro added: “Additionally, fans will see more Rey products hitting store shelves this month, including 6in and 12in Rey action figures”.
