Hayden Panettiere seeks treatment for postpartum depression
Shields wrote about her experiences in her book, Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression, and received criticism, most notably, from celebrity Tom Cruise for her choice to use anti-depressants in her treatment.
Hayden and her fiancé, professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko, welcomed their daughter Kaya Evodkia last December.
Panettiere also got a lot of attention for her remarks on Live!
The 26-year-old star of the hit musical drama Nashville has been open about her struggle with depression.
“I’ve never, ever had those feelings”, she continued.
Her spokesperson said: “Hayden is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment centre as she is now battling postpartum depression”.
In one of her latest tweets, she celebrated the return of her pre-baby body.
“I suffered a bit of postpartum depression”.
“Luckily, [my case] was low grade enough that I didn’t have to be hospitalized, but it’s a very debilitating thing, and I think there’s so much shame around it and there shouldn’t be”, she told ET.
Notably, Panettiere’s character on “Nashville”, Juliette Barnes, has experienced postpartum depression.
“You don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that [postpartum depression] on”.
“It’s something that needs to be talked about”, she said. “They brush it off. It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable. And women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does, you know, heal”.
