Hazard Reveals Chelsea’s Two Title Threats
Chelsea fell behind to Christian Eriksen s stunning 11th-minute strike, but equalised through Pedro Rodriguez s exquisite curler and took victory after Victor Moses rammed home Diego Costa s cross.
The Belgian captain also believes that not having any European football has helped Chelsea this season.
Chelsea are now top of the Premier League table, just one point ahead of Liverpool and City.
Tottenham Hotspur are then four points below the Gunners in fifth place.
Antonio Conte’s men have now won seven consecutive league games and return to the summit after title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City had won earlier kept pace with the leaders. The players showed a good response to Monaco, they showed the right mentality.
“They started better than us, with good intensity, with a lot of pressure”.
We are a different team compared to the team which lost at Arsenal and Liverpool.
They travel to City on Saturday seeking a victory over Pep Guardiola’s side that Hazard said would be a statement of intent.
But former Anfield skipper Souness said: “Of course it’s a blow”.
Tottenham are more aware of this than any other team, their winless streak at the Bridge now extending to nearly 27 years and 30 games.
“They won at Burnley and they have a lot of good players – Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne. They scored [a second goal] and for us it was impossible, but I think it was a very competitive game”.
While the result was disappointing for Spurs, the defender-cum-midfielder feels that it would be useless to keep on thinking about what went wrong on Saturday.
“We dominated the first half and we created the best chances in the game”.
“It’s good”, he said.
Spurs now have one win in 10 games in all competitions and the week which saw them eliminated from the Champions League concluded with yet another loss at Chelsea. It would have been very hard to win the Tottenham game if we were the same team as two months ago. The introduction of Marcos Alonso has reduced Hazard’s work load which gives him space to concentrate on his duty upfront.
