HBO’s Girls will end after its sixth season
News, the HBO series starring Lena Dunham is going to be officially calling it quits after the upcoming sixth season, which will premiere at some point in early 2017.
The news comes just as the fifth season of the show, which also stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver, is set to premiere next month.
The show has been a fantastic success for HBO, as well as for the young cast of actors that have appeared in the series over it’s four season lifespan. “Once we figure out what season five is, we’ll know whether it’s another year”, she said at the time.
The show has become a sensation among millennials and shot Dunham to stardom.
It was just previous year that Dunham herself stated that the show would most likely only run six-seasons on HBO. Although the characters in Girls are not known for “growth” the end of the fourth season did leave some footprints of that.
Girls has been an awards season staple for HBO.
Tell Us: Do you think Girls should end after six seasons? The cabler next has freshman series including Sarah Jessica Parker comedy Divorce, pot comedy High Maintenance as well as the long-in-the-works Vice Principals.
The decision was foreshadowed last September, when Dunham told Elvis Duran that she was planning to wrap up the stories of Hannah, Jessa, Marnie and Shoshanna.
With that said, it seems a little soon for the news of an end two seasons in advance, however it makes sense for the show and the fans.
