He Looked Sharp – Arsene Wenger Takes Alexis Sanchez Positive From Chelsea Loss
Petr Cech believes that Arsenal “were brilliant” for 70 minutes despite their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger labelled Diego Costa “clever” after the striker was involved in the incident which saw Per Mertesacker sent off during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Wenger praised his team, despite a fifth loss of the season which leaves them three points behind Leicester in third place.
The former Atletico Madrid star has been strongly linked with a move back to his former club this season, as he has failed to recapture the form that catapulted the Blues to the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho.
Wenger’s decision to take off Olivier Giroud for bringing on Gabriel Paulista after Per’s sending off was another decision that swayed the game in Chelsea’ favor.
“The team knows it’s a big gap but I always want to see the ambition of the team”.
“It set the wrong tone for me”, said Keys.
They remain a bogey side to Arsenal, who have not beaten them in the last nine league games, failing to score in the last six.
“Yes. Of course. Mertesacker made the challenge, but I said he got Mertesacker sent off. You can not say it’s not true”, Wenger told the Daily Mail.
Chelsea still languish in the 13th place in the table but midfielder Nemanja Matic was optimistic they can maintain the recent form they have displayed in an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
“In this moment I am very happy”.
“We showed ambition going forward… the only thing you can criticize a bit – we didn’t go for the kill”.
It only got worse after Mertesacker got himself sent off in the 18th minute and Walcott struggled to make an impact as Arsenal went down to 10 men.
The Gunners rarely looked like scoring.
Flamini had a fine opportunity in the first half, but rather than head it, he tried to acrobatically divert the ball in.
Even Alexis Sanchez’s return in the second half, after two months out injured, made little impact. All in all, it’s a great day to be a Chelsea fan.
