It’s the gift I have been asking Santa for all year. We cling to our cherished memories of Christmases past, and honor our traditions that continue to this day. They replaced the reason for the season – Christmas – with “Happy Holiday”. Festivals are the flawless way to celebrate and exchange gifts, greetings and messages with family, relatives and friends. I want to see Christmas. So they wanted everyone to say, “Happy Holidays”.
It’s all a way of remembering the birth of Christ, shaking off the midwinter blues and engaging in a spot of brotherly love and neighbourly celebrations, and let’s just enjoy all of its many aspects.
Thanks to Moses and a raft of other prophets, we now consider most of those early churches as paganist and incredibly intolerant.
Since Christmas is such a public holiday – people put out displays and pass out cookies, and they feel compelled to wish people some version of merriment – it is no surprise that reactions to it vary across communities.
‘Tis the season for some to take offense when a store clerk says “happy holidays” instead of “merry Christmas”, or when a coffee chain converts to plain red cups for the holiday.
As you can probably see, I get excited about Christmasy stuff. Well, to them I would say: “You may not be Christians”.

Those weren’t the kind of season’s greetings a teller at BB&T Bank in Buford had in mind. Will those who refuse to acknowledge Christmas greet one another with “Happy Holiday” a week later or will they say “Happy New Year?”
Like most men, I’m not very good at preparing for the holidays, or birthdays, or anniversaries, and such, so I married someone who is.
Each Dec. 24, I would join my friends and colleagues at the nighttime mass and appreciate the beauty, pageantry and love that permeated Sacred Heart Chapel. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was another huge Crosby hit from 1943, and still shows up on holiday playlists every December. We hope this day brings in a lot of happiness and joy into your life. May your Christmas be filled with the true miracles and meaning of this attractive time.
Now we’re asked to refrain from using a greeting that’s been dear to me for well over 90 years because someone might be offended. With many good wishes for Christmas and the coming year. This time of year can be extremely stressful.
