Headset Problems Only Making New England Patriots Look Worse
The issue isn’t new, Tomlin said.
The National Football League has headsets for every team so that coaches can call plays during games. The issue was addressed and the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues.
Foxborough Police confirmed there was an incident being investigated by National Football League security and stadium security involving a member of the Steelers coaching staff.
“We were listening to the Patriots’ radio broadcast for the majority of the first half on our headsets”, coach Mike Tomlin said. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin complained about the problem after the game, and suggested this issue was nothing new at Patriots home games. “We ended up having to signal a couple of our plays offensively, and we couldn’t get them in”.
Belichick offered the comments without any prompting from reporters after he was questioned about problems with the communications systems at Gillette Stadium during the game.
Well, we didn’t even make it a full game into the season before the New England Patriots got involved in another cheating scandal and the media had something else to attach the word “gate” to.
As an untimely follow to Deflategate, technological glitches marred the NFL’s rainy opener between the Patriots and Steelers at Gillette Stadium on Thursday.
“We had a lot of problems”, Belichick said. There was a game that followed and – you guessed it – another controversy. Maybe that manifested in last night’s game when the Pittsburgh Steelers’ headsets mysteriously picked up the Patriots’ broadcast during most of the first half.
Yahoo Sports, citing an unnamed source, reported that the Steelers will file a complaint with the league about both the equipment failure and officials not turning off headsets on both teams’ sidelines.
The story also detailed how “teams commonly clear out trash cans in their hotel meeting rooms in New England because they believe the Patriots go through them”. In fact, the Patriots have been accused of headset trickery before.
“We nearly had to switch helmets with Brady at the end”, Belichick said of quarterback Tom Brady.
Belichick said he did not get an answer to what the problem was, adding that technology is “not really a very strong area for me”.
