Headteacher celebrates her birthday – aged 11!
I got mad at her when she told me I was only 1 year old. Unlike Maggie who usually celebrates her birthday on the 28th, Magdalena says she would use the whole week to celebrate.
Ahead of her big day, Mrs Watkin has been educating pupils on some fun facts about leap day and challenged them to work out her true age.
Likewise, couples married on February 29 may be celebrating their fifth anniversary, but their kids think they’ve been married 20 years. It is 365.24 days long, and the extra one-fourth of a day is why leap days are added every four years.

If we go way back in history you’ll find the ancient Egyptians were one of the first to realize the need for a leap year. She says her little sister will tease her, saying that she isn’t the youngest in the family, because Maggie will only be turning 5 this year.

Whilst the idea is similar to leap years, the reason is quite different. They only happen on years that are divisible by four – except for years that are both divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400. For a leap year to occur, it must be a year that is evenly divisible by 4. If I haven’t heard from someone for a couple of years, I’m guaranteed to hear from them once February 29 rolls around.
If we didn’t do this the seasons would shift around the calendar, and in 750 years’ time June would find itself in the middle of winter.
