Health officials: Zika virus is spreading quickly
Now there is a growing concern about the virus’s presence in the U.S. According to the CDC, there have been 31 cases of the Zika virus across 11 states. It hasn’t been confirmed, but there appears to be a link between the Zika virus and children born with microcephaly, an abnormally small head and underdeveloped brain.

He said the government decided to make the announcement because 5,397 cases of the Zika virus had been detected in El Salvador in 2015 and the first few days of this year. Since last May, the Zika virus, originally believed to cause minor physical symptoms such as fever, has spread at an alarming rate throughout a number of Central and South American countries, as well as Puerto Rico.
They prefer, instead, that patients look and listen to the clinic’s message and avoid the risk.
The United States has two potential candidates for a vaccine for the Zika virus and may begin clinical trials in people by the end of this year, but there will not be a widely available vaccine for several years, USA officials said on Thursday.
The World Health Organization says the Zika virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas and could reach 4 million cases in the next year.
Zika Virus spreads by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also carries dengue fever and yellow fever.
“(It is) most significant in pregnant women because their babies can be born with a deformity of the skull, so that is very concerning.
The Virginia Department of Health has confirmed the first reported Zika virus infection in a Virginia resident.
With 20,000 people confirmed as having the virus, Colombia is now the second most infected country in the world after Brazil. “If you are pregnant you should try to limit your travel to those areas”.
It said the pair also “agreed to continue to prioritize building national, regional and global capacity to combat infectious disease threats more broadly”.
