Hear Carrie Underwood’s introspective new Storyteller track ‘What I Never Knew
The emotional ballad, “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted”, was written by the country star in collaboration with Brett James and Hillary Lindsey about her 7-month-old son, Isaiah Michael, and husband of five years, National Hockey League star Mike Fisher.
“Clock Don’t Stop” Another track that pushes Underwood toward the pop side of the country-pop divide, “Clock Don’t Stop” builds its way toward an epic, half-time refrain, where Underwood aspirates her words (“the clock don’t stah-ah-ah-op ticking away”) with mechanical precision.
“I think mom guilt is rampant in my life”, said Underwood, whose son Isaiah was born in February.
Underwood likes to sing about women who seem like they’re ready for their own episode of “Snapped”, but her voice doesn’t quite have enough edge or sass to make it believable.
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher got married in July 2010 and announced their first child in September this year with the help of their furry friends Ace and Penny. Underwood considers her Christian faith as the most important thing in her life and she often expresses this through her faith-inspired songs. She worked with a new producer, Jay Joyce, along with her regular producers Mark Bright and Zach Crowell. Instead she aimed for more subtle but still distinctive singing. “It’s not old, not old country, but it’s more traditional”.
In “Church Bells” and “Heartbeat”, she truly inspires millions and we can see traditional Carrie that has won hearts with the sweeping of American Idol. “Like I’ll Never Love You Again” has truly turned out to be a youth anthem and is the best song for dedicating to your sweetheart.
