Hear The Beep Where You Sleep
Location matters when it comes to your smoke alarm.
This year’s theme is “hear the beep where you sleep”, a call to have a working smoke alarm in every room in the house.
Sheridan Fire-Rescue personnel are encouraging people to install smoke detectors in every bedroom in their homes.
The NFPA reports that roughly half of all home fire deaths occur between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. In homes that did have smoke alarms, one-fifth of the detectors were not functional.
DON’T assume you’ll hear the fire alarm if it sounds.
FASNY is supporting state legislation which would require that all smoke alarms sold in New York State be equipped with sealed-in, non-removable batteries capable of powering the device for at least ten years.
The Kalispell Fire Department offers free, nonpunitive safety walkthroughs at any residence in the city to help residents determine fire hazards in their own homes.
As the national awareness month kicks off, local fire officials are reminding citizens to be smart about fire safety. They will show the kids firefighters are not to be feared and remind them how to be safe when fire strikes. “That’s why having a fully functioning smoke alarm in every bedroom is so important”.
Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency services will join the national effort to promote Fire Prevention Week with fire safety programs at schools.
“Fire Prevention Week presents the ideal opportunity to better educate the public about this potentially life-saving message”, she added.
So how can you tell if yours needs to be replaced?
Their mission is mainly to make sure Moncks Corner residents have working smoke detectors.
“We want everyone to know the sound that will wake them up and to practice their escape routes”, said Martin Haller, president, MAFC.
