Hearing set for mom charged in fridge baby death
Deputies sad that on February 27 they were called to the hospital for a report of a child that was brought in unresponsive.
The infant was taken to Chester Regional Medical Center and pronounced deceased.
According to the Chester County Coroner, the child died from hypothermia and suffocated in the cold conditions. She is charged with murder/ homicide by child abuse, according to jail tracker.
A motive is not yet known.
She is set to appear in court on Tuesday. “They had already begun an investigation, so we worked with them”.
Sprouse said he didn’t know if Blackwell had an attorney.
Neighbors say the Blackwells almost lost their home recently because their yard was a mess. Public defender William Frick represented her at Monday’s hearing, but said he had just received the case and didn’t know enough to talk about it. Blackwell’s next court appearance is November 10. He said that she was a bit depressed before the time of birth, but soon cheered up when William Lewis was born.
Authorities say Angela Blackwell put her 4-day-old son in the refrigerator, where she left him for a few hours.
If convicted, Blackwell stands to spend 20 years in prison.
The warrant, WBTV reports, states the death of the 4-day-old child “occurred under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to human life”.
The boy’s father, who is not charged in connection to his death, has a lengthy arrest record.
They said children’s toys were strewn everywhere, alongside a white hearse and rusty-looking vehicle without an engine that had seen better days.
