Heat deal Shabazz Napier to Magic
The Orlando Magic will acquire point guard Shabazz Napier from the Miami Heat for a protected future second-round pick.
Gerald Green has signed his one-year deal to join the Miami Heat.
In an effort to clean up its offseason roster, the Heat traded Napier to the Orlando Magic on Sunday for nearly nothing in return save closure. Napier only averaged 5.1 points and 2.5 assists in the 51 games that he played wearing a Miami Heat jersey last season. 400 in both overall field goal and three point percentages, but he might find himself some more space within the young Magic roster.
It stands to reason the cash Miami sent the Magic in the trade will offset the bonus Napier earned for playing in the Orlando Pro Summer League.
In the wake of LeBron James leaving Miami, the Heat have quickly built a team that will contend in the Eastern Conference.
Zoran Dragic was used sparingly in first season in the National Basketball Association, with the 26-year-old appearing in just 16 games and netting a total of 25 minutes between the Suns and the Heat. The deal, initially reported by Yahoo Sports, is expected to be finalized Monday.
Miami Heat forward James Ennis is finalizing a plan that would postpone a decision on his contract until the start of the regular season. But, for the Magic, this gives them some more depth at the point guard position behind Elfrid Peyton. In exchange, Miami receives a heavily protected second-round pick. He averaged 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in his final collegiate season. The key here, however, is the tax penalties don’t kick in until the end of the season, so the Heat has until next February’s trade deadline to maneuver. He spent a good portion of the year in the D-League before getting injured with a sports hernia that knocked him out in March.
